2025 Renault Symbioz hybrid SUV revealed in Europe

Although there's no official word at this stage, the new model could come to Australia as it's being built in right-hand-drive for the UK market.

The 2025 Renault Symbioz small SUV has been revealed in Europe, and it could come to Australia.

Revealed as a hybrid-only model, the Symbioz could take the fight to fellow Alliance member Nissan Qashqai, as well as Toyota’s Corolla Cross.

Like its Captur sibling, the Symbioz is based on the Group’s CMF-B underpinnings, and is set to be made in right-hand-drive for the UK market – meaning there’s a good chance it could make an Australian debut at some point in the future.

If it were to land on our shores it would join the Renault fully-electric Megane E-Tech, Arkana SUV coupe, Koleos medium SUV and Captur models already on sale here.

A spokesperson for Renault told Drive that the marque considers all right-hand drive products for our market but had no further information to share at this stage.

The French brand revealed the C-segment Symbioz in recent days, showcasing a model which draws inspiration from a spectrum of cars from the brand’s history – including the 1960s Renault 16, 1980s Espace and 1990s Scenic.

It’s the last vehicle to be released as part of Renault's ‘Renaulution’, the company said, adopting Renault's new design language following on from the recently updated Scénic E-Tech electric and new Captur.

Positioned between the Captur and larger Austral models, the Symbioz is a crossover SUV aimed at young families.

It has a boot capacity of up to 624L and a modular layout with a sliding bench seat that folds to create a flat floor. In Europe it will also be offered as a seven-seater.

It’s 4413mm long, 1797mm wide and 1575mm tall, making it larger than the Captur but smaller than the Austral.

The small ‘Hybrid 145’ powertrain utilises a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 1.2kWh battery and two electric motors producing 106kW of power. Fuel economy, thanks to the hybrid set-up and a relatively low 1500kg weight, makes for a claimed 4.6L/100km fuel economy rating using the combined WLTP cycle.

At this stage, specification details are few, however, Renault says the Symbioz will offer the best of its technologies, including its OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built-in, a tinted glass sunroof, as well as 29 new safety features.

Visually, there’s a clear link between the Symbioz and Captur at the front, but elsewhere, the design is stronger and more angular.

Orders are set to open for the 2025 Renault Symbioz for Europe in July, with an Australian arrival yet to be confirmed.
