2019 and 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid recalled for hybrid system fault
A total of 89 Accord Hybrids suffer from a DC-DC converter unit that could shut down in cold temperatures, cutting vehicle power, according to Honda.
Honda Australia has recalled 89 examples of the 2019 and 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid.
According to the recall notice lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), "in cold ambient temperatures, the DC-DC converter may shut down and prevent the 12-volt battery from recharging, resulting in a loss of drive power if the vehicle continues to be driven.
"Warning lights in the instrument cluster will illuminate and a warning message will also appear.
"Loss of power could result in the vehicle slowing or stopping, increasing the risk of an accident. The ACCC considers that the hazard posed to consumers from this safety defect includes the risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death."
All 89 affected Accord vehicles are stamped either Model Year 2019 or 2021 – with Model Year 2020 vehicles excluded from the recall – and were available for sale on 16 October 2019, and between 17 June 2020 and 11 August 2020.
A full list of all affected vehicle identification numbers can be found here.
Honda Australia advises owners of affected vehicles to contact their preferred Honda dealership to organise a free repair. Customers can contact the brand for more information on 1800 804 945, between 8:30am to 6pm AEST from Monday to Friday.
