Volkswagen is sending four new showcar versions of its new Up! city car to next week's Geneva Motor Show, adopting a Swiss theme in honour of the event's host nation.
Two of the "concepts" are based on the Cross Up! revealed in Frankfurt last year, which in turn led to the unveiling of the regular five-door version.
Dubbed Winter Up! and X Up! (we think you'll figure out which is which), the two showcars deliver a convincing enough recreational look, with ski racks on one and a roof-mounted carry-all for the other.
While the Swiss Up offers little more than a red paint tribute and unique Swiss Army Knife holders in the cabin, the unique Cargo Up! imagines the little city car as a versatile delivery van.
Based on the three-door Up!, the Cargo does away with the rear passenger windows and replaces the back seats with a 1400 litre storage space and a partition barrier between the driver and the back space.
They might be mere showcars for now, but the Cross Up! is already expected to enter production (most of Volkswagen's models have a high-riding counterpart in the European market), and you can bet the Cargo Up! will be under consideration.
As for the regular Up!, Volkswagen's new city car is expected to hit the Australian market in the coming months.
