Volkswagen ID. Buzz due in Australia end of 2024, expressions of interest now open
Expressions of interest reborn Kombi for the electric era – the Volkswagen ID. Buzz – have formally opened ahead of first showroom arrivals by the end of next year.
The road to Australian showrooms for the 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz – the electric reboot of the classic Volkswagen Kombi – has progressed with the opening of a 'register your interest' page on the VW Australia website.
First local deliveries for the ID. Buzz – which was unveiled in Europe 18 months ago – are due in December 2024, pending any delays.
In the meantime two examples of the ID. Buzz brought to Australia from Europe for local evaluation last year will make their Australian public debuts at Sydney's Cronulla Beach during a Volkswagen-sponsored Kombi and surfing festival on October 21.
The Australian model line-up for the ID. Buzz is yet to be announced; overseas there is a choice of five-seat, short-wheelbase and seven-seat long-wheelbase people movers, as well as a Cargo van.
The online 'register your interest' form will allow keen buyers to select their preferred version.
Prices are yet to be announced, however it is estimated many models will cost in excess of $100,000, using European prices as a guide.
Volkswagen Australia says it has received a confirmed start of production date from the factory, and "technical approval" from head office in Germany to introduce the vehicle here.
However the process of certifying the ID. Buzz with Australian motor-vehicle regulators for use on local roads is some time away, and will occur closer to showroom arrivals – which are promised "before Christmas next year", pending any delays.
