Video: Ford GT Heritage Edition revealed
Ford has announced a Heritage Edition of its GT supercar, celebrating the brand's endurance racing wins from the 1960s.
A new Ford GT Heritage Edition has been announced, with the model celebrating the brand's win at the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental race.
The limited-edition Ford GT borrows its livery from the 1966 Ford GT40 racing car, with a modern take on the retro graphics – complete with the number 98 on the doors.
Forged, gold 20-inch alloy wheels come with the Heritage Edition, contrasting against the huge red Brembo brake calipers. Owners can choose to option exposed carbon-fibre 20-inch wheels, manufactured by Carbon Revolution in Geelong, Victoria.
The inside of the Ford GT Heritage Edition has Alcantara on almost every surface, with buyers gaining red anodised paddle-shifters and red seats. The number 98 is also found on the inside of the doors.
The Heritage Edition pays tribute to Ford's on-track successes in 1966 – a pivotal year for the company, with the dominance of the Ford GT40 in endurance racing showing its ability to compete with the likes of Ferrari.
The battle between the two car companies was immortalised on-screen with the 2019 film Ford v Ferrari, starring Matt Damon as Carrol Sheby and Christian Bale as Ken Miles – the driver who won the 1966 Daytona race.
In 2019, Ford offered a Heritage Edition of the GT in the iconic Gulf Oil livery. Heritage Editions were also announced for 2018 and 2017.
