The claws of the Takata airbag saga have reached further into Nissan’s model range, with the carmaker forced to expand the recall program for its Tiida small car.
Tiidas built between October 2006 and December 2012 are now also on the list, with a total of 41,154 vehicles affected in Australia.
Nissan’s X-Trail, Navara, Pulsar and Micra models fitted with Takata airbags are among the other 200,000-odd Nissans recalled to date.
As with other Takata airbag recalls, the problem centres around the airbag’s inflator casing which could rupture as the airbag deploys.
Should this occur, metal fragments could strike the vehicle’s occupants, resulting in injury or even death.
