The long-gestating JOSS JP1 supercar, an Australian performance project first detailed in 2004, has taken a new step today towards production.
The supercar, which has now been revealed in multiple incarnations with a number of ‘nearly there’ details over the past five years, will now take to the popular crowd-funding model for further development.
In a release today, Joss founder and technical director Matthew Thomas introduced a new Kickstarter campaign, the website which has seen eager early adopters push hundreds of projects to production.
“JOSS has just launched a Crowd Funding event live on the ‘Kickstarter’ website, our aim, to raise the decisive $480,000 needed to complete the engineering details and build of the planned ‘Track Version’ of the JOSS JP1,” Mr Thomas said in a statement.
Thomas says that after nearly 20 years of development and investor discussions, the company now sees crowd-funding, with the support of fans and would-be buyers, as the JOSS supercar’s best shot at a production future.
But while that $480,000 target will get JOSS onto the track, production of a full roadgoing verison will likely require a much greater spend.
The project’s Kickstarter page lists pledge tiers that vary from $10 to $8800 - meaning that no specific amount will get a JOSS into your driveway - and rewards vary from an emailed thanks to a ride in the finished product.
