Also unveiled in September as the Hyundai Avante for the Korean market, the new Elantra is the sixth generation of the model and brings new levels of efficiency, quietness and ride quality - according to Hyundai.
Safety is also on the carmaker’s list of improvements, and Hyundai is confident of obtaining the maximum 5-star safety rating from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Korean customers have a choice of two petrol-powered engines and one diesel powerplant. A 97kW/161Nm 1.6 litre petrol engine kicks off the range, joined by a 110kW/180Nm 2.0 litre unit and a 1.6 litre diesel making 100kW and 300Nm.
US customers also get the 2.0 litre petrol engine, but the smaller alternative is a turbocharged 1.4 litre unit producing 95kW and 211Nm.
