VW BEETLE: SYDNEY MOTOR SHOW 2012
Volkswagen’s new Beetle has made its first appearance on local soil at today’s Australian International Motor Show (AIMS).
Set to go on sale in February next year, the new model will replace the previous ‘New Beetle’, which disappeared from local sales charts in 2011.
This latest iteration of the classic Beetle shape is 150mm longer, 84mm wider, and 15mm lower than the model it replaces.
The Australian debut of the new model has been a slow process, following its international debut at the Shanghai and New York Auto Shows in April last year.
Volkswagen is yet to confirm local availability of the cabriolet model available internationally, with a sole hardtop model on display on its AIMS stand.
Local models will employ the 1.4 litre twincharger 118TSI four cylinder engine found elsewhere in Volkswagen’s line-up.
Transmission choices will be either six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic, while fuel consumption for the six-speed manual version on display is listed at 6.8l/100km.
Volkswagen Australia will announce local pricing closer to the new model’s February on-sale date.
