2023 Toyota Supra recalled – with a bizarre catch
Toyota Australia has issued a recall for the Supra sports car – or rather just one example which is yet to leave the dealer's showroom.
Toyota Australia has recalled just one example of the 2023 Toyota GR Supra – though the sports car hasn't even been sold by its dealer.
According to Toyota, the affected Supra was built on 1 February 2023, however it remains in the care of the undisclosed dealership which first took delivery of the sports car.
The recall notice, uploaded to Toyota Australia's media website, says: "Supra vehicles are equipped with an automatic transmission that includes a control computer. Due to an improper manufacturing process, the case joint welding may be defective.
"This possible defective welding may allow transmission fluid to penetrate the control computer resulting in a short circuit, which in the worst case the vehicle may lose drive power while driving."
Date of recall notice | 7 December 2023 |
Make | Toyota |
Model | GR Supra |
Year | 2023 |
Vehicles affected | 1 |
The recall affecting the Toyota Supra will be rectified with a replacement transmission control unit before it is sold to the public.
While it might seem strange for Toyota to recall a car which hasn't yet been sold to a private buyer, car makers are legally required to publicly report all recalls of vehicles which have been homologated and approved for sale in Australia.
The Toyota Supra was last recalled in Australia in September 2023, owning to a fault with its brake booster vacuum pump.
It is understood no other examples of the Toyota Supra or BMW Z4 twin-under-the-skin are affected by the recall.
