2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition revealed
In its final year of production, Ford’s GT supercar pays tribute to the 1964 prototype that started it all.
Ford has taken the covers off a limited-edition variant of its GT supercar, paying tribute to the original 1964 GT40 ‘GT/101’ prototype that laid the groundworks for Le Mans success between 1966 and 1969.
Known as the 2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition, the vehicle is finished in Wimbledon White with Antimatter Blue. Drawing inspiration from the iconic original, a racing stripe runs directly down the middle of the car, while 'FORD' decals line both sides behind the door.
The front splitter, mirror stalks, spoiler mounts, and diffuser are finished in carbon-fibre. Inside the cabin, Alcantara trim lines the dashboard, door cards, and steering wheel.
The Ford GT's existing twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine is retained in standard specification, sending 492kW/745Nm to the road via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This allows the vehicle to launch from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.1 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 348km/h.
Ford is yet to confirm production details or pricing, however the current-generation GT isn't built in right-hand drive – ruling out an Australian launch.
Production of the current-generation Ford GT – which launched in 2017 – is expected to wrap up at the end of this year, and there are no publicly-announced plans for a direct successor.
