2022 Citroen e-C4 electric car “under evaluation” for Australia
Citroen may be planning to launch its first electric vehicle in Australia in the next 12 months.
The fully-electric 2022 Citroen e-C4 hatchback-turned-SUV is under consideration for the Australian market, according to local distributor Inchcape.
The vehicle – which went on sale in Europe in the last 12 months – would be the French manufacturer's first zero-emission vehicle offered Down Under.
A spokesperson for Citroen's local division told local media this week: “We are definitely evaluating [the e-C4] …. we plan to have further information in the near future.”
It the car is officially green-lit for the local market, it's unclear at this stage if a launch in 2022 or 2023 is more likely.
A 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol variant of the same vehicle is now on sale in Australia, priced from $37,990 before on-road costs.
The all-electric model is powered by a single front axle-mounted motor, sending 100kW/260Nm to the front wheels. This allows the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 9.4 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 152km/h.
Energy is drawn from a 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack, permitting a range of 350km on Europe's WLTP cycle.
In Europe the e-C4 attracts nearly a 50 per cent price premium over its petrol range-mate (when comparing flagship variants) suggesting that if the car is sold in Australia, it could start from approximately $60,000 before on-road costs locally.
