2019 Ford Focus sedan spied
Complete with some very funky camouflage
The next-generation Ford Focus sedan has been spied wearing a very thin disguise this week, giving us a closer look at what's to come from the upcoming small sedan.
Like the hatchback (spied undisguised recently) and wagon prototypes before it, the sedan gets a completely redesigned face, headlined by a new six-point grille, and headlights that feature a prominent T-shaped LED daytime-running light signature similar to Volvo's 'Thor Hammer' design.
The colourful comic-book-inspired wrap features the hashtag #TimeToFocus – which was also seen on a disguised hatchback prototype recently.
Compared to the hatchback and wagon, the sedan obviously gets a different roofline and rear end. The rear does slope down from the B-pillar, and blends into the boot in a fastback-style fashion.
Despite the different rear treatment, the Focus sedan still gets a similar LED tail-light signature to the hatchback and wagon, which is similar in shape to that of the Subaru Impreza.
The rear overhang is also quite a lot shorter than, say, the new Kia Cerato – meaning the new Focus sedan doesn't appear overly long at first glance.
It's unclear exactly when the new Focus family will be revealed, as it was previously thought at least the new hatchback and wagon would debut at the Geneva motor show, which has now passed.
However, it's still possible the Blue Oval's popular small car will be revealed at the New York motor show in the coming weeks. Otherwise, a debut at the Paris motor show in October seems likely.
Other than the exterior overhaul, the new Focus is expected to get a major interior upgrade as well. More premium materials are expected, along with a more minimal approach to physical buttons and dials and increased cabin space for occupants.
In terms of powertrains, the new Focus will likely offer a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel motors from Ford's Ecoboost and EcoBlue engine families, ranging from 1.0- to 2.0-litres in displacement.
We could see performance-focused ST and RS versions down the track, though the sedan normally isn't included in the hot Focus line-up.
