Ordering a new Hyundai Ioniq 5? Start here!
Here’s your best look at what colours and equipment you can have with the brand-new Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is stirring public interest in a way not quite achieved by electric cars before it. Perhaps Australians have taken a liking to the Ioniq 5’s retro styling, its slew of impressive kit, or could even see it as their first-ever electric vehicle, but we’re tipping the initial local run of 400 cars will be snapped up immediately once they go on general sale from October 13.
As a bit of background, the Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s new-generation electric vehicle and exists in a sole five-door, medium SUV body style. Don't let the hatchback-inspired styling fool you, this is no i30-sized runabout. It can be had with a selection of electric powertrains, though Australians will initially only get the choice between a rear-wheel-drive configuration and an all-wheel drive one.
To keep things simple Hyundai will only be importing a single high-specification model grade for now, simply named ‘Ioniq 5’. The RWD and AWD variants will cost $71,900 and $75,900 before on-road costs, respectively.
The rear-wheel drive Ioniq 5 scores a 160kW/350Nm electric motor on the rear axle, while AWD models upgrade to two electric motors (155kW/350Nm rear and 70kW/255Nm front), for total outputs of 225kW/605Nm.
Hyundai’s dedicated E-GMP electric architecture offers 400- and 800-volt charging capacity, the latter translating to a 17-minute 10-80 per cent charge time using a 350kW DC fast charger.
It’s already a known quantity in regards to what we can expect spec-wise, as detailed through our thorough pricing and specifications story, but headline equipment includes two 12.3-inch screens in the dash, 20-inch aerodynamic-style alloy wheels, electrically-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, eco-friendly leather trim, panoramic roof, a power boot release, and a Bose sound system.
A confirmed list of six subdued, but technical, colours is available from launch including Atlas White, Phantom Black, Lucid Blue, Digital Teal-Green, Galactic Grey, and Gravity Gold. The Gravity Gold is a matte-effect colour and will cost an additional $1000.
There are three ways you can specify the interior upholstery, though it Hyundai says the final combination depends on the exterior colour. Choices are Obsidian Black, two-tone Dove Grey/Dark Pebble Grey, or two-tone Dove Grey/Dark Teal leather.
That said, reading about and seeing are two different things so – until we can can see a local configurator – we’ve put together a little visual taste test of how you could have your 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5.
