Melbourne’s best pastries – with the Mini Countryman PHEV
We took the Mini Countryman plug-in hybrid for a tasting tour around Melbourne to some of the best cafes and bakeries. Here's how we got there!

In the Drive Melbourne office, we love a good pastry, namely croissants, and are constantly on the hunt for the best in town.
We set out on a journey around Melbourne in the Mini Countryman plug-in hybrid gathering some of the best pastries from some of the top cafes and bakeries around inner Melbourne.
With a ground clearance of 165mm, this small SUV was the perfect companion – getting us through laneways with sharp entrances, tight back streets, and cobblestone roads with ease.
Our route took us to two established bakeries on Queensberry St in North Melbourne. We then travelled through Carlton to University square before heading to Lune in Fitzroy and To Be Frank in Collingwood.
We crossed over to the city and drove through some Melbourne laneways, including the iconic Hosier lane. The final stop was made at the South Melbourne Market, where we were able to charge the Mini – for free!
The entire journey was completed without using any fuel, rather, taking advantage of the 61km electric driving range. We also made the most of the large boot, which offers 450 litres of cargo space – ample room for a bucketload of pastries.
Utilising a bunch of back roads meant we avoided the Melbourne traffic and busy main thoroughfares. Here's the route we took:
